Healing Back Pain focuses on Dr. John E. Sarno's research into TMS (Tension Myoneural Syndrome) and explores factors that cause back pain. Dr. Sarno looks at who are prone to TMS, how anxiety and repressed anger trigger muscle spasms and considers whether some accept back pain as inevitable?
It's difficult not to be impressed by the clear message from Dr. Sarno about what causes back pain and what is not causing it. The book covers Traditional Diagnoses such as Herniated Disc, Pinched Nerve and Spinal Stenosis to name but a few, along with fascinating case histories that provide an alternative mind-body diagnosis for the patients symptoms. One of the key statements, which also happens to be on the first page, "don't repress your anger or emotions."
The increase in back pain sufferers is alarming, but seeing the mind-body connection have such an impact on patients brings hope. For those experiencing back pain, I'd recommend launching this book to the top of your read list. Additionally, it's a worthy read to reinforce the importance of not repressing emotions, especially anger.
